Summer’s a hot topic right now (see what I did there?). But seriously – some of us live for the feeling of the sun on our skin, while others among us yearn for the temperatures to drop to jumper-wearing and candle-lighting lows. I’d say I’m a bit of both: as renewed and joyful as I feel in Autumn, I’m a July baby whose mood can be greatly lifted by the rise of a few degrees. Lazing in the park, on a beach, or in a pub garden with a cold beer in hand are three of my favourite ways to bask in the heat.
"Tropic Skin Care"
It’s supposed to be Spring, but the weather (at least here in London) seems to have different ideas. If it isn’t grey and drizzly, it’s muggy and humid; the day will start off at 6c and reach 15 by midday and quite frankly it’s making my head spin. Like I said, though, it’s technically Spring, so I thought I’d talk about some additions that I’ve made to my beauty routine for the season, from cruelty-free favourite Tropic Skin Care.
To say I was a little bit nervous, as I headed towards London’s South Place Hotel in the fading twilight on the last Tuesday of March, would be quite the understatement. I was hugely flattered to be on my way to Tropic Skin Care’s SS17 event, and excited to meet members of their lovely team. At the same time, though, I was harbouring an ever-growing sense of fear about going, the usual catastrophes that maraud future social engagements already reaching fever pitch in my anxious mind.
Facial oils and serums seemed to really take off in 2016, or at least I found them coming up on my radar more and more often last year. For good reason, too; they can be a wonderful alternative to a daily moisturiser, keeping your skin healthy and hydrated. A good facial serum can prove to be a saviour for your skin, feeding it with nourishing ingredients you hadn’t known you’d needed. In Tropic Skin Care’s Super Greens Nutrient Boost Serum*, I have discovered one such product.
I take an unreasonably long time to get ready in the mornings. When I tell people I set my alarm for 6.15am and don’t leave the house until just after 8am, they are usually shocked and confused at how it could take so much time to get fed and watered before hitting the road. I do envy those of you who can be up and out within half an hour, but I don’t think it’ll ever be me.
Foundation and heat rarely mix: this is something I’m sure many of us have learned the hard way, myself included. Even if I’m lucky enough to have the company of my foundation all day, it’s far from a pleasant experience – it goes all melty and gross and just generally looks like a mess. Ultimately, applying foundation when it’s very hot doesn’t appeal to me much at all, so I tend to either go without a base or use something lighter instead.
Who doesn’t love a good birthday? Cake, hats, bunting, the works? And when the generous host gifts you a fabulous party bag to take away with you? Even better.
After trying out Tropic Skin Care‘s gorgeous Sun Drops earlier in April, I was eager to check out more products from their range. When the brand’s lovely team got in touch to see if I wanted to get involved with their 3rd birthday celebrations, I jumped at the chance. I was kindly sent a party bag* full of treats to try out, which I will be previewing below.
I’ve long had a conflicted relationship with tanning. In my teenage years, I would spend whole days lazing in the park during summer, neglecting to properly protect my skin and paying for it afterwards. As I’ve learned more about the dangers of exposure to the sun, I’ve questioned my desire to be tanned, and have developed a healthier approach.
Festive calendars are great, aren’t they? Whether it’s a chocolate-a-day to count down towards Christmas or a bells-and-whistles set from a favourite cruelty-free beauty brand, there’s just something very special about opening up those little doors and seeing what awaits you on the other side. You can imagine my jubilation, then, when Tropic Skincare’s 12 Days Of Tropic Gift Collection* arrived in the post; I could hardly contain my excitement as I opened the parcel.
I’ve managed to accumulate quite the skincare collection over the last while – from gifted products to firm favourites repurchased in advance, I seem to have no shortage of cleansers and the like. The collection has reached the point where I’ve decided I won’t buy another thing until what I have is used up – by all means, congratulate me on my inspiring self-restraint! In the meantime, I thought I’d chat to you about my top skincare picks from 2017.
