It’s been a while since I wrote an Empties post – 5 months in fact! I’m pretty pleased about that, in a way. I’ve been using and enjoying all of my beauty and skincare purchases and haven’t needed to stock up all that much. However, the time has come when things start to run out, and so I’ve ended up with a few empty bottles and containers which I thought I would share with you today.
Let’s start with these two concealers from Barry M. Actually, it’s the same Flawless Light Reflecting concealer, but in two different shades. This happened by accident; I originally bought shade 3 (Beige) and ran out, mistakenly replacing it with shade 2 (Nude). Can brands please stop calling their light/pale products “nude”? Anyway, I digress…I noticed that while Beige was a really good shade for concealing spots and other blemishes, Nude worked much better at reflecting light under my eyes. I’ve been happily scraping the remains of each tube ever since, and believe you me it is high time I replaced them both.
I really like this concealer. I can understand why people wouldn’t; it’s quite oily and runs out ridiculously fast. Somehow, though, it just works for me. I find it ever so slightly difficult to blend sometimes; rather than sinking in, it sort of just moves around the surface of my skin. Apart from that, though, I’m happy.
A couple of months ago, I discovered White Rabbit Skincare and am so glad that I did. They’re a brilliant independent skincare brand with strong cruelty-free credentials and effective, high quality products. I’ve just run out of the Orange Blossom and Aloe Vera Toner as well as the Chamomile and Carrot Seed Eye Cream and their replacements are on their way. These two products are among the best I’ve tried this year and there’s no way I could be without them for too long. My hand slipped during the ordering process and added the Chocolate Orange Lip Balm to my basket, too.
The last bit I’ve run out of is my Illamasqua Skin Base Lift Brightening Concealer*, which I purchased in Light 1. I’ve well and truly hit pan on this product and need to head to an Illamasqua counter asap to replace it. I’ve been using this concealer for a long time now and honestly, I feel like it could be time to try something else with a little more coverage. The consistency is pretty thick, but I feel like it’s buildable rather than full coverage. I don’t know. I think I might also be applying it poorly; I’ve been using a concealer brush but the product seems to get left behind in the bristles. One thing I do love this concealer for is highlighting under my eyebrows, as I can pick up a very precise amount of it on a flattened brush. For that reason alone I’d replace it.
That’s it for this month’s empties! What have you gotten through recently? Do you normally replace the same products or try new ones?
*I’ve become aware that the Illamasqua concealer is unfortunately not vegan, due to it containing beeswax. Boo 🙁
