Ethical warrior? I can feel your skin crawling with cringe as you read that. The alternatives were, though more SEO friendly, rather dull: ethically minded, conscious consumer, sustainably savvy – that last one isn’t half bad. Title aside, I have mustered up just enough festive spirit to produce this slightly last-minute gift guide – less of a guide, more of an introduction to some lovely brands I’ve come to know over the year which might just have something perfect for the ethically conscious vegan in your life.
Without further ado, let’s get straight into it shall we?
1 | Bloomtown
I absolutely fell in love with Cornwall-based skincare brand, Bloomtown, this year. Spurred into action by their passion for the environment, the family-run business creates beautiful, palm oil free products, all of which are suitable for vegans and cruelty-free to boot.
The stand-out product I tried from Bloomtown this year was their Black Clay and Tea Tree Treatment mask, which I reviewed in more detail in August. This mask is luxurious and indulgent, making it perfect for that person in your life who is in need of some additional TLC. If you’re not sure how a face mask will be received, Bloomtown do oil products too, like the Nourishing Body and Bath Oil, available in three different scents. Whatever you choose should you wish to gift someone something from Bloomtown, you can rest assured that it’ll come gorgeously packaged and made with love.

2 | Walden
I discovered Walden perfumes through ethical beauty and skincare site, Love Lula, who own the brand. Inspired by the writing of Henry David Thoreau – particularly his seminal work, Walden – the range offers five fragrances, composed of natural ingredients. I fell in love with The Solid Earth* almost instantly – as my review makes very clear – and would highly recommend one of the Walden perfumes if you are shopping for someone with a taste for unique and comforting scents.
If the idea of purchasing a whole perfume – especially one of you’ve not been able to sniff-test – for someone is a little bit terrifying, you might want to instead consider the Walden Natural Perfume Gift Set, which features 5ml testers of each fragrance.
3 | Corkor
Cork is having a moment, and Portuguese brand Corkor are part of it. Producing vegan, sustainable and stylish accessories out of nature’s leather alternative, Corkor offers a wide range of bags, belts and wallets, without causing harm to animals or the environment. Their cork is all FSC certified, and the artisans working out of their Portuguese workshop are all fairly paid and well treated.
The Vegan Passport Wallet** (pictured in “natural”) would make a great gift for an ethically minded traveller. Know someone racking up their frequent flyer points quicker than you accumulate stamps on a coffee card? Get them a passport holder that not only looks beautiful and has space for their cards too, but also makes an important environmental statement.
4 | JOIK
Candles and bath bits – they’re cliche for a reason! Having recently tried their wonderfully scented cinnamon bun candle, I was keen to treat myself to a few more products from vegan-friendly brand JOIK. For the purposes of this gift guide, of course.
Let’s start with the Orange and Cinnamon Bath Truffles*. I’ve always been more of a bath bomb or bubble bar person myself, as I like my bath to be full of froth and colour. However, these truffles are truly delightful – not only do they smell AMAZING, they leave your bath water silky and smooth, melting away into a fizz which doubles up as an effective exfoliant. Sadly, these particular truffles appear to be sold out but Love Lula do have the herbal ones in stock, which sound equally delectable.
Staying on my cinnamon bullshit, I present to you the Cinnamon Coffee Soy Wax Scented Candle*. I will never tire of receiving gifts I can burn, and when they smell as lovely as this, who can blame me? While this scent is also, frustratingly, unavailable right now, it’s a good time to check out JOIK’s other wonderful sounding candles.
With Christmas fast approaching, it’s important to remember that we don’t need to throw money and meaningless gifts before a dizzyingly near-distant deadline. Take some extra time to think of something your recipient will appreciate, treasure and use. Support smaller brands making a difference in the world, and don’t forget to pick something nice out for yourself either. It is Christmas, after all.
Happy ethical warrioring!
